One of my best friends at work is a black man who grew up in Mobile, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia. Getting by on canny social skills, not book knowledge. Intuition over intellect. Survival skills over book learning. A place that celebrates gentility, politeness, manners, and family. Obstinate and proud. Freedom, respect, dignity, and economic and social equality. Spiritual strength. You can kill the dreamer, but you cannot kill the dream.
