Ferguson 2.0?

There has been an officer-involved shooting of an armed black man named Charles Smith in Savannah, Georgia. The man who was shot dead had been handcuffed behind his back and put into the back seat of a patrol car. He kicked out the window and fled the scene with his weapon in plain sight of the officer. He is being described by the media as a "victim." I have not seen any information about why the police were in the process of arresting him. Here is a photo of him.

Here is this "victim's" criminal history:
“Smith was previously charged with several counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, cruelty to children, possession of cocaine and theft by receiving stolen property. Smith served time in state prison 3 times in connection to several of these charges.”

The media is referring to Smith, the dead armed felon, as “the victim of a police shooting”, not as the armed suspect shot by police. Those subtle differences are HUGELY important. The words chosen lead the reader or listener. They implant ideas. “That poor fella was the victim”. He has to be right? After all, they called him the victim.
